Many undergraduate and graduate students work part-time work study or non-work study jobs during their time at Tufts. These positions can help students refine their career interests, develop essential job skills, and earn some additional funds for books and personal expenses. We maintain a job listing for on-campus work study, on-campus non-work study, and off-campus part-time positions on Handshake, our Career Center’s recruiting platform.
A report in The New York Times today underlines college students’ increasing flexibility: Arizona State University, one of the nation’s largest schools with more than 40,000 students, is joining with edX, the massive open online course provider founded by M.I.T. and Harvard, to offer a freshman year curriculum that offers full university credit for a mere $200 a credit. Students only pay if they pass the courses and there is no admissions process, making college accessible to students with all sorts of jobs.

The level of experience required for online jobs varies based on the type of job. Most sales reps do not require a college degree, but some companies that sell specialized equipment ask that applicants have a degree in a specific field. Many online writers and editors have a high school diploma or its equivalent, but some companies require that writers have a degree in journalism, communications or a similar field.
When the recession caused companies all across the country to close, workers turned to the Internet for jobs. Part-Time Online Jobs let people work flexible hours, and freelance workers can work as writers and editors or as residential sales representatives. Sales reps sell products through online websites and pages they create, through door to door sales, with cold calling techniques and with parties and events they host at home or at their customers' houses. They can sell advertising space, medical equipment, jewelry, home decor or hundreds of other items. Writers and editors often create content for website owners, write and publish their own books or work for leading newspapers and magazines. The number of teenagers working Part-Time Online Jobs has increased in recent years, and more than five percent of all teens now work on a freelance basis.
Kelly, I 100% agree with you about staying away from content mills. I would add staying away from Yahoo! voices too for the low pay along with some of the shady posts on Craigslist (although I do sometimes find gigs worth going for). I’ve also had some luck with Ebyline, and a string of luck lately approaching businesses directly about blogging for them resulting in multiple and ongoing work for at least $50 per post.

How to Get It: Begin with sites like UserTesting.com, YouEye.com and Userlytics.com. Register with multiple companies for opportunities to test as many websites as possible. Once you're in the system, you'll be emailed when testers are needed, and if you're one of the first to respond, expect to spend 15 to 20 minutes completing the test. Many sites require a microphone and/or webcam, which are built into most laptops—but if you need to buy one, they aren't expensive. The tester sites typically pay within a week or two via PayPal.

Many ESL tutoring sites provide everything you need in the way of lesson plans, and you just follow along. In order to teach, you’ll generally need a home computer that can do video chat along with noise-cancelling headphones with a microphone. Some companies require you have a college degree. Find out more in my Teach English Online post, or click through to see if these sites are hiring right away:
What It Is: What better way to alleviate your travel bug than to work as a remote travel agent or consultant? Whether part- or full-time, spend your working hours dreaming up itineraries, flight plans, hotels, and activities for clients looking to travel far and wide. Then, take advantage of your discounts (hey, perks of the job) and go wherever your heart desires, whenever your heart desires.
With exclusive job opportunities as well as posts pulled from sites like Indeed and Craigslist, this board consolidates a variety of gigs for everyone from newbie to seasoned freelancers. If you don’t want to see jobs from a certain source (Craigslist, for instance, can sometimes be sketchy), you’re free to narrow your displayed results to exclude them.
I hope this exercise helps declutter your tasks and responsibilities a little and allows you to see how much more time you can be saving for more important things. But, this is not the end of delegation. After you’ve sorted out the tasks that can be delegated, the next step is to determine who it should be delegated to. Besides people like your co workers, or spouse/family members, did you know that there is a whole delegating industry out there?

The job location and development (JLD) program sponsored by the University Career Center (UCC) and the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships locates and develops off-campus job opportunities (full or part-time, seasonal, or temporary) in Lawrence, Topeka and the Kansas City Metropolitan area. All off campus student jobs are posted in HireJayhawks.com.

If you're a good writer, you can hit the ground running and earn hundreds of dollars to write once you find the right clients. If you're not a good writer, you may get paid less as you get better and find more clients. The potential is there but so is the work.

Being busy is good, it’s better than not having anything to do and letting time slip away. But, what many people don’t realize is, being busy doesn’t always mean you’re being productive. The more time you take to complete something does not equal to more success. Many people end up falling into this trap as they pack their day with tasks and errands that may sometimes produce little outcome or output for the effort that they’ve put in.
"I had a few different offers by the time I graduated, but I chose Deere because I would have not been able to forgive myself if I had passed this opportunity up. I was so impressed with the company when I did my internship at the Tractor Cab Assembly Operations facility in Waterloo, IA. The people were so nice and caring and the employee resource groups, especially NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) really helped make a difference in my summer. I was participating in meaningful work and awesome personal and professional development. When it came down to where I would feel the most valued, participate in the most fulfilling experiences, and could make the most influence in the world, I could only think of John Deere. Plus, making quality products that influence our infrastructure and our food on a global scale brings me a certain sense of pride. I am always so proud to tell people, 'I work for John Deere!'”
If you enjoy writing, you could earn six figures from the comfort of your home as a freelance writer. Freelance writing is like any other type of client-based creative work business. You need to develop your skills, build up a portfolio of your work, and find writing gigs. It can be lucrative but you won't be making a full-time income immediately – that takes time but it's certainly available.

What It Is: Many companies pay online testers to make sure websites are intuitive and easy to navigate. "You basically follow the instructions you're given to check out the website," says Anna Thurman, founder of RealWaysToEarnMoneyOnline.com, a site that has reviewed more than 500 online work opportunities. "It usually only takes about 15 minutes per test." Thurman recommends registering with 10 to 12 different companies since the opportunities to test these sites are doled out first come, first served. "There are people who make $100 to $200 a month by staying on top of those tests," Thurman says.
Are you a social media maven? As social media becomes more and more important, colleges are trying to keep up with the latest social media trends. Who better to tap into than students who are social media experts without even trying? Your college's marketing department, as well as its different offices, departments, and services, might be looking to pay a student to assist with social media.

4. Don't be afraid to ask, "How'd you get your job?" Make use of your peers. If you have any friends who work on campus, see if there are any openings at their workplaces, and if they can connect you with a manager or supervisor who would be willing to take a look at your resume. If you see an acquaintance working somewhere you'd like to work - like the campus Starbucks, for example, or in the dining hall - don't be afraid to ask if their workplace is hiring.

You may hear this term a lot in the business or corporate world; it’s an effective way for managers to distribute (or sometimes avoid!) work. But, that’s not what I’m referring to. Instead, delegation means leveraging time from an outside source to give you opportunities to increase your quality time. By outside source, we simply mean that it’s not your own time that you’re spending.

Imagine this: You wake up in the morning when you feel like it, not because an alarm clock went off, but because you’re ready to start your day. You roll out of bed and make a nice cup of coffee. You lazily read the newspaper or enjoy the view from your villa before finally, in your own time, you sit down on your computer to plug away for a few hours and make some serious money – while still wearing your pyjamas. This is one of the many benefits of online jobs!
In our opinion, the best way to earn money from a blog is through affiliate marketing. Basically, you recommend a product or service on your blog that you use and love. You link to said product / service with an affiliate tracking link which means if one of your readers clicks that link and makes a purchase (on Amazon for example), you’ll automatically get paid a commission.

My girl came across this site, after I told her about losing a comment posting gig. I appreciate the time you took putting this together. I’ve been a part of the oDesk site for about 2 and a half years now, and I know all too well the struggle it is to get good paying work. oDesk is cool, but the foolishness that involves taking tests just so that you seem a little more proficient than the next person has always bugged me. I’ve been using oDesk as a starting point, and then convince my clients to move away so that we work together privately. My international clients hate all the extra fees. I’m really looking forward to trying the sites you mentioned, and once again Thanks for your time.
Of course, blogging isn’t for everyone. While you don’t need any prior internet experience (we had never even heard of WordPress before starting our blog), if you don’t enjoy writing about topics you’re passionate about, taking photos and social media, then this job obviously isn’t for you. In that case, we’ve included many other online jobs in this post to help you earn money remotely.

If you think the market for online learning is too flooded, think again. People are drawn towards courses for the teacher. Your potential students may not like the people behind the courses currently available, but they might like you. When thinking about which online jobs you can do, consider any skills you have and share your knowledge with the world in the form of a course.

Social media managers build communities for companies on social media, engage these communities in conversations (for example, getting a lot of comments), and encourage them to take some sort of an action (like reading a blog post, signing up to an email list, or buying a product). Social media managers also play a vital role in building brand awareness for a company.
